Escape for a day...

I went to the island for the day with my parents when they visited this week. My day in pics (taken from my view).

 It was a wonderful getaway. It was exciting to find the sea grass so close to shore again. I have posted a few of the wallabies because they were the highlight of the day. No matter how many times you feed rock wallabies it is still amazing. I love watching them bound and stretch.

Busy Busy! Birthday Bliss...

Hello blogging world. It has been a while I know. Well life again has become very busy but, thanks to my birthday yesterday I got to chill for a bit and not worry about work or the wedding for a day. I rebelled and stayed awake until 4am reading on Sunday night/Monday morning. Scott snuck out to wish me happy birthday at around midnight. It was really sweet.



My actual birthday started later that day becasue I was up like a rebel until almost sunrise. At around about 11ish we went hunting together for fabric so I can make the centre pieces for the bridal table. I am sewing 2 green sea turtles to match our reception location. After that we headed into the city for lunch and a pot of tea. I LOVE Absloute Tea. It is a beautiful place. They serve you the most beautiful tea in lovely Dalton Tea Cups. The off dis scrumptious and then you can take sample packs of a wide variety of tea home to try. It is so hard to choose what to drink. If you are in Townsville and a tea lover you MUST spend some time there.



Once we had recovered from many cups of tea and a lovely lunch Scott and I headed down to Reef HQ to wander and watch the fish. A few rainforest animals were there as well for the school holiday program. I got see some old childhood friends including sugar gliders. They are so beautiful, wish we could keep one as a pet. I have a few video snippets which I will upload separately in an ocean post. Reef HQ is running a program to help injured turtles.



I still hadn't quenched my beach craving after Reef HQ so Scott took me to Rowes Bay and we wandered past the mangroves and chatted. We were accompanied by 2 Jack Russell's who randomly joined us. They were quite happy little fellows, jumping, running, spinning, chasing tails and hiding in the magroves. Jack Russels always just seem so happy. Sheer cuteness would make peoples heads explode.



Scott then gave me my birthday present which was a 1 hour hot rocks massage from Tropical North Queensland Day Spa. Talk about bliss, I felt liked I blinked and it was over. It was a wonderful, wonderful experience. I have let him know that anytime he wants to give me something please consider this. Just wow, I want one every week! I ended up selecting an oil called 'Indulge' it smelt of vanilla, coconut and lime. Very much suited to the tropics I think.



What a brilliant day overall and thank you Scott for making it possible!!!

Cassowary- Etty Bay

I have headed home and what do you know? Head down to Etty Bay and a Cassowary was waiting to greet us. I got a few photos and video which I thought I would upload. The bird is beautiful to watch. Sorry for the shaky hands.

Random Weekend

Like the heading suggests...random weekend. Alright exciting news, I picked up my wedding ring. YAY! I love it and it looks great on my child like hands. I also have learned that working two jobs sucks especially around report writing time and on top of that planning a wedding means no sleep for me. Sadly no exciting cooking or crafting this week. To busy trying to work out this national curriculum and getting through my 20 hour professional development I need to do in my own time (sleep????)

On a random side note. We have a Cockatoo in the neighbourhood who has decided I am a good perch. Scott and I put out wild bird seed so we can get a free show each morning. See this post about some of our visitors. However, lately each time I have gone to put food out a 'wild' (I use the term loosely) Sulphur Crested Cockatoo either lands on the fence right next me, lands on the bird feeder as I am filling it OR on me. This scared me half to death the first time. Especially because I was wearing shiny earrings and just had a mental image of one being ripped out. It keeps doing it and I don't know why it thinks landing on a human is a good idea???? For those who don't know this type of cockatoo weighs about 900g and is 50cm long. It is not small animal to have chilling on you. I am hoping it either stops or I learn to get used to it. I have started talking to it. Perhaps it was a tame one that escaped who knows. I shall call it Bob.

Backyard Vistors

A few of our birdie friends that swing by each day. In order, Bower Bird, Lorikeets, Cockatoo, Pale Faced Rosellas. They are great fun to watch and with our nectar eaters product we are hoping to attract a wider variety.

Not the best start to the day. We missed our Ferry and when we finally got to Horseshoe Bay it was covered in green algae which smelt FOUL. However, we regrouped and headed on over to Geoffrey Bay. Everyone was going to Alma to swim and play so we scooted on down to the opposite end of Geoffrey under the pine trees and stretched out on the beach for a good 3-4 hours. It was so relaxing to hear the waves and just chill out reading. Scott got to explore the exposed reef at low tide and managed a nice gash in his toe. I was also super lucky to see my second ever Echidna in the wild. Scott was the one who spotted it. So small and spiky, he/she blended in beautifully with the bush. We found it on the walking track that takes you back to Nelly Bay from Geoffrey. I also snapped a pic of two mischievous Galahs!

Hiking around Town Common

First Sunday where I don't have to work. WOOT WOOT! Scott took me out hiking behind the Town Common on a beautiful trail. The birdlife was fascinating to watch. A pair of Brolga spent a good 15 mins dancing in the wetlands. They have just finished back burning so the paths were nice and clear. Some wonderful views that photos just cannot do justice for. Here are a few pictures of the local wildlife. I will hopefully be able to add some cute bird pictures once my camera charges. Enjoy.
